I attended the 2014 American Library Association Annual Conference in Las Vegas. Becuase I am not content to just sit and listen to everyone, I signed on to work as a stringer for American Libraries, the magazine of the American Library Association. I wrote articles about the sessions I attended and submitted them to the American Libraries
“The Scoop” blog.

In no particular order, here are the pieces I wrote while at the conference:

• Connected learning and libraries: Three case studies – how activities like playing Rock Band or animating using Scratch can help youth learn real-world skills.
• Connecting youth: Teen learning in 21st century spaces – about the philosophy of connected learning.
• Earn what you’re worth – negotiation tips for library professionals, but really negotiation tips for any professionals.
• Resume advice from an expert – advice I received from a resume workshop, generalized so others might benefit.
• 3D printing and libraries – the current state of library policies regarding 3D printers in libraries and suggestions for effective 3D printer policies.
• Literary tastes: Celebrating the best genre reading of the year – four authors who won Notable Book Awards speak about their work and their life. This was fun because there were free books and author signings afterwards!
